A Year from Yesterday

A year ago today,
I didn’t think things would be this way.
I didn’t expect for you to be there,
Where
I could meet up with you.
Or for me to be here,
Where
I would need you.
I didn’t expect for things to change so much.

I’ve loved so deeply
And yet, I’ve lost so much.
I’ve had to learn a lot.
I’ve grown and moved on;
And I’ve gotten up again.
But when I looked up,
I found your helping hand.
And I could never explain to you how much I’ve appreciated it.

I didn’t expect for you to be there till the end.
And I didn’t realize you’d be a perfect best friend.
I only hope I’ll be able to return the favor one day.
